Provincial governments across Canada are privatizing our health care system by handing out contracts to private, for-profit operators for long-term care, hospital surgeries, and diagnostics – a violation of the Canada Health Act. The federal government needs to act to ensure that all Canadians can access the care they need, free of charge.

Canadians are proud of our health care system. We understand the fundamental principle of medicare, as New Democrats envisioned it: that care should be provided to all Canadians based on their needs, not their ability to pay.

Our public dollars should stay with health care services under public, non-profit ownership and control – not go to corporations profiteering off the people they are supposed to be caring for.

As NDP leader, I will fight to end unlawful extra-billing and two-tier health care by making full enforcement of public health care standards a condition of federal health funding.

Add your name to stop corporations from looting public health care!
