How to vote

To administer the voting process for the leadership race, Canada’s NDP has engaged Data on the Spot (DOTS).

NDP members who are eligible to vote for the next NDP leader should have received a voting package by mail during the week of March 2, 2026. This package includes voting instructions and your unique credentials.

Members should also have received at least one email from credentials@dataonthespot.com or from vote@simplyvoting.com with their voting credentials. Please search your inbox for an email from these email senders. If you don’t see it:

  1. Check your spam or junk folder

  2. Check other email addresses that the Party may have on file for you

If you have not received your voting credentials by email or mail, contact DOTS at credentials@dataonthespot.com or 1-833-368-7123 for support, or to have your credentials reissued. You will need to verify your identity.

Voting Period

Voting will open on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 12:01 a.m. ET and conclude on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. ET

Your vote is secret and secure. No campaign, staff member, or volunteer should ever ask you for your Voter ID or Password.

Proxy voting is strictly prohibited.

Voting Methods

Members may vote using one of three methods:

  • Online

  • By telephone

  • By mail

Online voting is strongly recommended. All methods of voting will be available in English and French.

The first method used to vote will determine how your vote is recorded. For example, if a member votes by telephone and then attempts to vote online, only the first vote will be counted.

Voting System

This election will use a preferential (ranked) ballot. You will rank Leadership Contestants in order of preference by marking their first choice as “1,” second choice as “2,” and so on.

Voters are not required to rank every Leadership Contestant. You may rank as many or as few contestants as you wish, including only a single choice. Only one Leadership Contestant may be selected per rank.

Online Voting

Online voting will be conducted on the SimplyVoting platform and administered by DOTS at vote.ndp.ca.

Once logged in using your Voter ID and Password, you will be able to vote online securely, ranking Leadership Contestants in order of preference.

Online voting will be available in English and French, as well as in Spanish, Italian, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Portuguese, Korean, and Hindi.

Online voting will open on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 12:01 a.m. ET and will close on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. ET.

Telephone Voting

Telephone voting will be administered by DOTS using an automated, toll-free phone system. To vote by telephone, call 1 (888) 739-0389, enter your unique Voter ID and password, and then rank Leadership Contestants in order of preference.

Telephone voting will open on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 12:01 a.m. ET and will close on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. ET.

Mail-In Ballots

To ensure broad participation, the Party is offering a mail-in voting option. Due to possible mail delivery delays outside the Party’s control, additional safeguards are in place to ensure ballots are received and counted within the voting period.

Members are strongly encouraged to vote online or by telephone wherever possible, as these methods ensure immediate ballot submission.

The deadline to request a mail-in ballot was Friday, March 6, 2026.

Mail-in ballots must be received by DOTS no later than Friday, March 20, 2026, to be counted.

If your mail-in ballot is not received by DOTS by the March 20 deadline, you will be notified by email and you will still be permitted to vote online or by telephone before voting closes on March 28.

Supports for Members and Voting

During the voting period, members requiring assistance with voting can contact DOTS by email at credentials@dataonthespot.com or by phone at 1-833-368-7123. Support will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET through Saturday, March 28, 2026.
