What's the maximum I can donate to a leadership candidate? // I already gave to another leadership candidate. Can I still give to the Lewis for Leader campaign?

You can give a maximum of $1,775 in 2026 for the leadership race. That limit is shared between ALL leadership campaigns. E.g. If you already donated $1,000 to one leadership campaign, you could still donate up to a maximum of $775 to other campaigns. If you were to donate $1,775 to the Lewis for Leader campaign in 2026, you could not donate to any other candidate.

I donated the maximum to the Lewis for Leader campaign (or another leadership campaign) in 2025 ($1,750). Can I make a donation in 2026?

Yes! The maximum donation reset as of January, 2026, and increased by $25. You can donate a full $1,775 in 2026 to the leadership candidates.

I already gave to my local Electoral District Association (EDA). Can I still give to a leadership candidate?

Yes! Leadership contributions are a completely separate limit. Your EDA contributions don't affect your leadership campaign contribution limit. You can donate a maximum of $1,775 to NDP leadership campaigns in 2026.

I already gave to the Federal NDP. Can I still give to a leadership candidate?

I've given $500 to the federal NDP party. How much can I give to this campaign?

You can give up to $1,775 for this leadership race in 2026, as leadership campaigns have a separate contribution limit. However, you can only claim up to $650 in tax credits across all contributions.

If I donated the max to a leadership race in 2026 at $1,775, can I still give to the party?

Yes—donations to the party are under a separate limit. But you'll have already maxed your tax credit, so party contributions would be dollar-for-dollar (no tax credit).

What's the maximum I can contribute across all NDP entities in 2026?

You can contribute $5,325 in total: $1,775 to leadership candidates, $1,775 to the party, $1,775 to electoral district association (EDAs)/local candidates. Please note that you can only claim up to a maximum of $650 per year in tax credits across all contributions.

Are political donations a matter of public record?

Yes, any political donation of $20 or more is a matter of public record.

I'm confused. What should I do?

Start simple: Your first $400 to this leadership campaign costs you $100 after tax credit. Give what feels right, and the NDP will send you a transaction receipt now, and a tax receipt early next year. You can always give more later if you have capacity.
